In a reassuring statement to the public on Sunday morning, August 4, Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa confirmed that he and his colleagues were safe following reports of a helicopter accident. Tayebwa took to X (formerly Twitter) to address the concerns, writing, “Dear all, my colleagues and I are all okay. No one is hurt.”
This statement came in response to a story posted by NilePost, part of Next Media, which reported that Tayebwa had been involved in a helicopter incident in western Uganda the previous evening. However, the platform did not provide further details about the incident.
In a comment on Tayebwa’s post, Dr. Lawrence Muganga, Vice Chancellor of Victoria University, expressed gratitude for Tayebwa’s safety, quoting Isaiah 46:4: “‘We thank God for your life and the lives of the colleagues you were with. The God we serve says: “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.’ May God’s blessings continue to shine upon you, filling your life with love, peace, and happiness.”
The Deputy Speaker’s prompt communication has alleviated public concern, ensuring that the situation is under control and that there were no injuries involved in the reported incident.
