Former Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Asan Kasingye has come under fire on social media following a controversial tweet directed at local actress Martha Kay Kagimba.
On Tuesday, Martha Kay, known for her strong online presence, tweeted:
“Confidence is sooo attractive. Whenever you send a message and delete it, you lose confidence points. Stop!”
The tweet garnered several reactions, including one from Kasingye, famously known as the “Tweeting Cop.” In a response that many deemed insensitive, Kasingye wrote:
“Even when you post your nudes accidentally? Be serious.”
The comment immediately sparked outrage among netizens. Many were appalled at Kasingye’s insensitivity, as he referenced a traumatic incident from 2022 when Martha Kay’s private photos were leaked online without her consent.
Social media users quickly condemned the former police official for his remarks. One user wrote, “How could you bring up such a painful memory? This is beyond inappropriate.” Another added, “Public figures need to be more mindful of their words. This is not the kind of banter that should be tolerated.”
In response to the backlash, Kasingye issued an apology and announced his temporary withdrawal from the platform:
“My post in response to @MarthaKayug was an innocent banter. It was not intended to insinuate anything. Having realised the impact, I deleted it & will not make any post on this platform for a month wef from tonight the 7th of Aug. I apologise for the inconvenience it has caused.”
Despite the apology, many users continued to express their disappointment, emphasizing the need for greater sensitivity and respect in public discourse.
