Background
The Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) is a public authority established by an Act of Parliament to regulate, promote, and oversee the coffee industry. To support our mission, we seek to recruit motivated and competent individuals for the following positions:
Job Purpose
The Coffee Extension Officers will coordinate coffee activities across districts to enhance quality coffee production and productivity.
Key Result Areas
- Implement and supervise coffee nursery development, renovation, and rehabilitation programs.
- Oversee the distribution of seeds and seedlings, ensuring compliance with procedures and guidelines.
- Implement coffee extension programs in alignment with departmental guidelines.
- Promote and disseminate new coffee technologies developed by research.
- Conduct regular pest and disease surveillance and implement management/control practices.
- Collaborate with local authorities and stakeholders involved in coffee development.
- Develop work plans and budgets for the region.
- Provide technical support for collecting coffee production and marketing data, and administer surveys and questionnaires.
- Monitor coffee quality throughout the value chain.
- Perform regular field inspections to guide farmers and enforce quality standards as per the National Coffee Act, 2021, and UCDA guidelines.
- Register and maintain a database of coffee value chain actors.
- Compile and submit periodic reports on the progress of coffee program activities.
- Undertake any other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science (First Class or Upper Second Class) in Agriculture, Agribusiness Management, Agriculture Extension, or a related field from a recognized university.
- At least 3 years of experience in an extension-related discipline within Local Government, Private Sector, or NGO.
- Valid driving and riding permits.
Skills and Competences
- Flexibility to work in upcountry locations.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- Good interpersonal skills.
