MSc and PhD Scholarships in Oil Seeds Research

Overview

The Government of Uganda, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, and the Ministry of Local Government, is offering scholarships for 10 MSc and 5 PhD candidates as part of the National Oilseeds Project (NOSP). This initiative, funded by IFAD and OFID, aims to foster sustainable development in the oilseeds sector and improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Uganda.

Scholarship Details

  • Number of Scholarships:
    • PhD: 5
    • MSc: 10
  • Fields of Study:
    • Plant Breeding: 1 PhD, 1 MSc
    • Seed Systems: 1 PhD, 2 MSc
    • Crop Protection: 1 PhD, 1 MSc
    • Soil Fertility Improvement: 2 MSc
    • Agricultural Economics and Value Chains: 1 PhD, 2 MSc
    • Agricultural Extension and Rural Innovations: 1 PhD, 2 MSc
  • Research Focus: Oil crops grown in Uganda such as soybean, sunflower, groundnuts, and simsim.

Eligibility Criteria

  • PhD Applicants:
    • Master’s degree in relevant fields (Plant Breeding, Seed Systems, Crop Protection, etc.) from a recognized university.
    • Degree should have been obtained within the last 5 years.
    • Age: Must not exceed 45 years.
  • MSc Applicants:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Plant Sciences, or a related field from a recognized university.
    • Age: Must not exceed 35 years.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Full-time availability for the duration of the scholarship (4 years for PhD, 2 years for MSc).
    • Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Application Process

  1. Prepare Your Application:
    • Write an application letter indicating your preferred field of study, home district, contact information (telephone and email), and any relevant work experience.
    • Include a recent passport photograph.
    • Attach certified photocopies of your academic certificates and transcripts.
  2. Submission:
    • Hand-Delivered Applications:
      • Address your application to:

        • Department of Agricultural Production, Makerere University
        • College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences
        • P.O. Box 7062, Kampala, Uganda
      • Deliver it to the Department of Agricultural Production by 5pm on 30th October 2024.

Selection Process
