Former Lira District Land Board member Ameny Thomas Max has been charged with forgery and fraudulent procurement of a certificate of title after allegedly converting government land at Ireda Estate into a freehold title registered in his wife’s name.
Ameny appeared before the Lira Grade One Magistrates Court following a joint investigation by the Anti-Corruption Unit, Police CID and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Prosecutors allege that between 2019 and 2020, Ameny and others still at large forged a land application form seeking to convert customary land into freehold tenure. He is further accused of falsely claiming that his wife, Edwe Dorcus Rita, was the customary owner of part of the government land.
The prosecution alleges that the documents were subsequently used to register Edwe as the proprietor of a freehold title for Plot 2, Abosolom Oteng Road, Ireda Estate, Lira.
Ameny allegedly committed the offences while serving on the Lira District Land Board and as a former District Speaker.
He was remanded in custody and will return to court on August 13, 2026, as investigations continue.
