The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a qualified and dedicated individual to fill the role of Project Assistant – Health Promotion. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of public health emergency response activities within the Migration Health Division, under the direct supervision of the National Project Officer and the overall supervision of the Head of Programme and Policy Development.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implementation and Monitoring: Assist in the execution and monitoring of health promotion and emergency response activities.
  • Data Management: Retrieve, compile, analyze, and present information on health service delivery and migrant screening.
  • Budget Monitoring: Monitor project budgets, verify the availability of funds, obtain necessary approvals, and update budget-related information.
  • Administrative Coordination: Act as the focal point for administrative tasks, coordinating project implementation with various organizational units and external parties.
  • Reporting: Draft status reports, identify delivery shortfalls, and suggest remedial actions. Prepare and update reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, and presentations.
  • Information Requests: Respond to complex information requests and inquiries. Set up and maintain files/records and organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Participate in meetings and conferences, assist in coordinating activities with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, NGOs, donors, and other stakeholders.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Assist in monitoring the work of implementing partners and report any non-compliance to the supervisor.
  • Training and Guidance: Provide guidance and training to new or junior staff.
  • Other Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Law, Social Science, or a related field from an accredited institution with at least 3 years of professional experience.
    • OR a High School Diploma with 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience:
    • Experience liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs.
    • Experience working with migrants, internally displaced persons, and other vulnerable groups in health promotion and emergency response.
    • Previous work experience with international humanitarian organizations, NGOs, or government bodies.
  • Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of migration health activities, public health emergency response, and health promotion.
    • Understanding of UN and bilateral donor programming, as well as financial rules and regulations.
    • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Languages:
    • Fluency in English (oral and written) is required.
    • Working knowledge of Kiswahili and/or local languages is an advantage.
