NBS TV has suspended Simon Njala Kaggwa, a senior talk show host, for 14 days following his involvement in Mathias Mpuuga’s thanksgiving event in Masaka on June 21.

According to reliable sources at Naguru, Kaggwa’s suspension stems from a breach of the media organization’s ethical guidelines, which mandate staff to maintain a non-partisan stance. The suspension was communicated to the editorial team this morning by News Manager Dalton Kaweesa.

The decision was finalized during a lengthy senior management meeting chaired by Next Media CEO Kin Kariisa.

In an attempt to divert attention from his suspension, Kaggwa posted on his social media account, X, stating: “Friends, over the next few days while on a break, I will be connecting with children born with hydrocephalus & Spina bifida complications. Join me in the drive to get them some foodstuffs, pampers & soap. They too long to share the joy of living with us. I thank you.”

However, it has been confirmed that his absence is due to the 14-day suspension rather than charitable activities.

Leading up to Mpuuga’s event, Kaggwa was notably active on social media, defending the Nyendo-Mukungwe MP against critics. Management concluded that some of his posts crossed the line, breaching professional standards expected from a highly regarded media personality.

NBS TV is expected to release a statement later today clarifying the circumstances surrounding Kaggwa’s suspension.

Kaggwa, who joined NBS in 2011 as the host of the Morning Breeze talk show, is known for his prominent presence on the station. An openly devout Catholic, Kaggwa has never hesitated to align himself with the opposition, particularly the Democratic Party.

This suspension marks the second high-profile case at Next Media this year, following the suspension of Zahara Toto in March, who has since left the station.
