Background:

UNICEF Uganda, in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), is relocating to a new shared office in Mbuya, Kampala. This transition necessitates a seamless IT setup to ensure uninterrupted services. The ICT4D section is seeking an ICT Intern to support the ICT team with user support, workstation setup, and IT equipment installation. How Can You Make a Difference?

Objective: The ICT Intern will assist the ICT team in managing technical aspects of the office move. This role is crucial in setting up IT infrastructure, ensuring continuity of services, and providing user support during and after the relocation.

Organizational Setting: The intern will work within UNICEF Uganda’s ICT team in Kampala, reporting to the T4D Manager and the Senior ICT Associate, Infrastructure & Connectivity. This position provides strategic guidance and hands-on mentorship, facilitating both learning and contribution to the successful office move.

Description of Assignment:

• User Support and Initial Setup:
  • Configure computers, peripherals, and software for users in the new office.
  • Address connectivity and setup issues during the move.
• Setup of Workstations:
  • Configure and organize workstations in the new office space.
  • Ensure all workstations are operational and well-organized.
• Mounting and Installation of IT Equipment:
  • Install and connect IT equipment like printers, scanners, and network devices.
  • Ensure all equipment is securely mounted and functional.
• Dismounting of Video Conferencing Equipment:
  • Safely dismount and transport video conferencing equipment from the old office.
  • Reinstall and test equipment at the new location.
• Post-Migration Support:
  • Provide ongoing support to resolve IT issues after the move.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and problem-solving during the transition.
• Documentation and Reporting:
  • Document the dismounting, transport, and setup processes.
  • Submit a final report with a summary of experiences and recommendations.

Key Deliverables:

• All workstations set up and operational in the new office.
• Successful dismounting and reinstallation of all ICT equipment.
• Comprehensive documentation of the relocation process.
• Final report with detailed experiences and recommendations.

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in or graduated within the last year from an undergraduate or graduate program in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, or Engineering.
• Strong academic performance as demonstrated by recent academic records.

Technical Skills and Knowledge:

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong technical troubleshooting abilities.
• Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including Windows 10/11, Microsoft Office suite, networking, telephony, Active Directory, video conferencing systems, MS Teams, and mobile technologies.
• Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Work Experience:

• While prior experience in ICT operations, project work, and customer service is advantageous, it is not required.

Languages:

• Fluency in English, both verbal and written, is required.

Work Hours: 8 hours per day
