Opportunity Overview: The African Centre for Cities (ACC) is offering fully funded scholarships for the MPhil in Urban Studies – Southern Urbanism program at the University of Cape Town (UCT). These scholarships are part of the DANIDA-funded CLAIMS to Energy Citizenship project, focusing on energy transitions in South Africa.

Scholarship Details:

• Number of Scholarships: Two for Master’s students
• Program Type: Fully Funded
• Annual Value: ZAR 245,000 (approximately $13,580), with additional funding for travel and fieldwork expenses
• Program Duration: Reevaluable every three years based on progress

Program Focus:

• WP1: Energy availability and routine actions
• WP2: Energy system transformation at the subnational level
• WP3: Multi-scale and multi-actor understanding of infrastructure citizenship

Eligibility Criteria:

• Academic Requirements: By February 2025, applicants must have a four-year Bachelor’s degree (including undergraduate + honors) or another Master’s degree.
• Enrollment: Must enroll full-time in the MPhil in Urban Studies – Southern Urbanism program at UCT.
• Commitments: Full participation in the project, including attending reading groups, workshops, project meetings, and other ACC and APG events. Research duties related to the project are required.
• Exclusivity: Cannot hold a full-time job while receiving the scholarship.
