Contract Duration: One year, with the possibility of extension


Job Overview

IFDC is seeking 19 dedicated Field Extension Workers (FEWs) to join our BRIGHT Project in the Rwenzori Region. The role involves working directly with farmers to improve agricultural practices, enhance food security, and build resilience in farming communities. As an FEW, you will be responsible for organizing farmers into project villages, providing training and support, and collecting and reporting data.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Farmer Organization & Training:
    • On-board farmers into organized groups (project villages) and guide them through Participatory Integrated Planning (PIP) sessions.
    • Register farmers and support cascading training to households.
    • Conduct agronomy and nutrition trainings, manage demo plots, and provide market support.
  2. Support & Monitoring:
    • Implement farmer support programs and manage input plus output market support.
    • Identify potential risks and develop action plans.
    • Collect and enter data into the BRIGHT Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) system.
    • Build and maintain effective relationships with local partners and stakeholders.
    • Provide technical support to farmer innovators and project personnel.
  3. Reporting:
    • Report to the IFDC Field Officer and submit a detailed monthly activity report by the 25th of each month.

Requirements

  1. Education & Experience:
    • Diploma or certificate in agriculture, agribusiness, forestry, or a related field.
    • Experience in extension work, farmer mobilization, and training.
    • Familiarity with the local language and environment.
    • Proven experience in running farmer training programs.
    • Willingness to work extensively in rural areas.
  2. Skills & Attributes:
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Commitment to the goals of the BRIGHT Project and to improving farming practices.

Compensation

  • Monthly Salary: UGX 600,000 (subject to 6% withholding tax)
  • Monthly Transport Allowance: UGX 150,000
  • Monthly Airtime Allowance: UGX 70,000
