Police in Ibanda district have reported a case of murder involving the stabbing of Gumisiriza Amos, a male peasant resident of Rushambya cell, Kashozi Parish, Ishongororo sub-county in Ibanda.
It is alleged that Gumisiriza was stabbed to death with a sharp object by his wife, Atuhaire Justin, on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at around 5 PM. The gruesome act reportedly occurred after Atuhaire discovered that Gumisiriza had used the money she had been sending home from her work abroad to marry another woman.
Upon realizing what had transpired, a furious Atuhaire allegedly attacked her husband, stabbing him in the neck, which resulted in his immediate death. In a bid to escape the scene, Atuhaire was apprehended by locals who beat her severely. Police rushed to the scene upon receiving the information and transported Atuhaire to Ishongororo HC IV for treatment. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after.
Atuhaire had traveled to Saudi Arabia for work and diligently sent her earnings to Gumisiriza for what she believed were developmental purposes. However, her return home revealed the bitter truth of her husband’s betrayal, sparking the fatal confrontation.
SP Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region Police spokesman, confirmed the incident. He stated that the anger stemming from Gumisiriza’s misuse of funds and his subsequent marriage to another woman led Atuhaire to commit the act of violence.
Kasasira noted that the bodies of both Gumisiriza and Atuhaire are currently at the Ishongororo HC IV mortuary pending postmortem examination. The police have not yet made any arrests concerning the mob action that led to Atuhaire’s death, but inquiries into the matter are ongoing.
