A tragic road accident has occurred in Kapchorwa District after a school bus carrying pupils from Kings David Junior School, Ndejje, was involved in a fatal crash while returning from an educational trip to Sipi Falls.
The accident happened on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Chekwatit Village in Keselem Sub-county, with the bus, registration UA 108BQ, reportedly carrying pupils back from the excursion.
According to preliminary reports, several people are feared dead, with unconfirmed figures circulating on social media claiming that up to 23 people, most of them pupils, may have lost their lives.
However, Uganda Police has not yet officially confirmed the number of fatalities or injuries, and authorities have urged the public to wait for verified information as rescue and recovery operations continue.
Police confirmed the incident at around 8:00 p.m., saying emergency responders had been dispatched to the scene and investigations into the cause of the crash had commenced.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released as authorities work to notify their families.
The accident comes just days after another tragic school transport incident in Mukono District, raising fresh concerns about road safety involving school buses.
