Kassim Ali, son of the late Gen. Moses Ali, has been nominated to contest the Adjumani West parliamentary by-election scheduled for September 17, 2026.
Kassim, one of the eldest sons of the former Second Deputy Prime Minister, is seeking to take over the parliamentary seat previously held by his father, who died on July 18, 2026, aged 87.
An active member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Kassim is reportedly receiving backing from senior party and government figures as he enters the race.
He is also regarded as a supporter of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a connection that could feature prominently in his campaign.
The NRM Electoral Commission confirmed Kassim’s nomination on Tuesday after he was cleared and received the required nomination documents from NRM electoral officials.
Kassim is a lawyer by profession and is now entering elective politics, with his father’s long political career expected to be a major part of his campaign.
Gen. Moses Ali represented Adjumani West in Parliament for decades and served as Second Deputy Prime Minister until May 2026.
Other aspirants are expected to join the race, while opposition parties are yet to complete their nominations.
The September 17 by-election will therefore determine whether voters in Adjumani West choose to continue the political legacy associated with the late Gen. Moses Ali through his son.
