The Nigerian entertainment industry has been plunged into mourning as news of the passing of veteran actor Mr Ibu, also known as John Okafor, spreads like wildfire. The beloved actor, known for his comic roles and infectious personality, reportedly breathed his last at the age of 62.

According to reports from sources close to the late actor, Mr Ibu passed away at Evercare Hospital, leaving behind a legacy that has endeared him to fans across the globe. Fondly remembered for his hilarious performances and memorable characters, tributes and condolences have poured in from fans and colleagues alike.

Details surrounding the cause of his death remain shrouded in mystery, leaving many fans in shock and disbelief. Mr Ibu had been battling health challenges since October 2023, a struggle that saw him undergo multiple surgeries, including the amputation of his leg. However, hopes were raised when his family shared updates in November indicating that he was on the path to recovery.

The sudden loss of Mr Ibu comes as another blow to the Nollywood community, as it follows closely on the heels of the demise of another veteran actor, Quadri Oyebamiji, popularly known as Sisi Quadri. The industry is reeling from these losses, grappling with the departure of two iconic figures within a short span of time.

Mr Ibu’s life was not without its share of challenges and controversies. In 2019, the actor made headlines when he alleged that his kinsmen had conspired with some of his domestic workers to poison him, purportedly due to envy over his successful career. This shocking revelation shed light on the darker side of fame and success in the entertainment industry.

Moreover, Mr Ibu had also claimed to have been poisoned on two other occasions, once in May 2022. In an interview with Vanguard Newspaper, he revealed the harrowing experience of “seeing people on the other side,” a testament to the trials he faced in his health battles.

Despite the challenges, Mr Ibu remained a resilient and beloved figure in Nollywood, capturing the hearts of audiences with his wit and charm. As news of his passing reverberates throughout the industry, many have taken to social media to pay tribute to the late actor. Notable figures in Nollywood have lit candles in his honor, a poignant gesture of remembrance and mourning.

As the industry mourns the loss of one of its brightest stars, fans and colleagues alike are left to cherish the memories of Mr Ibu’s iconic performances and enduring legacy. His absence will surely be felt, but his spirit lives on through the laughter and joy he brought to countless hearts.

In this time of grief, the Nigerian entertainment community stands united in honoring the memory of Mr Ibu, a true legend of the silver screen.
