The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Annet Anita Among, has embarked on a remarkable development project by constructing a state-of-the-art sports complex in Bukedea District. This morning, August 3rd, Speaker Among visited the site to inspect the ongoing construction works of the football stadium, which is set to host the East African Games (FEASA) starting on August 16, 2024.
The prestigious FEASA games will be hosted by Bukedea Comprehensive School and Amus College School, marking a significant milestone for the district and the country at large. The Speaker expressed confidence that the construction will be completed on time for the games.
“Hosting the East African Games is a great achievement for Uganda as a country and Bukedea at large. The people of Bukedea will conduct business and make money during these games,” said Speaker Anita Among, highlighting the economic benefits the event will bring to the local community.
Joining Speaker Among were Bukedea district leaders, headed by the district chairperson, Mary Akol, who echoed the Speaker’s sentiments about the positive impact of the games on the community.
Professor Jonas Gumisiriza, Managing Director of Bukedea Comprehensive School, assured that the host school is fully prepared for the event. “As a host, we are more than ready to host come rain come sunshine, and our boys and girls are well prepared,” said Gumisiriza, emphasizing the school’s readiness to welcome participants and visitors from across East Africa.
District chairperson Mary Akol also encouraged residents of Bukedea to seize this opportunity to conduct business and generate income. “This will be a great opportunity for the people of Bukedea to boost their household incomes,” she said, urging locals to prepare for the influx of visitors and the potential business opportunities that come with hosting such a major event.
The construction of the sports complex is not only a significant development for Bukedea but also a testament to Speaker Among’s commitment to promoting sports and economic growth in the region.
