National Unity Platform (NUP) activist Sauda Madada, popularly known as “General,” was visibly emotional and tearful moments after walking out of Luzira Prison following nearly a year in custody.
Madada, a longtime grassroots supporter of NUP leader Bobi Wine, had been in detention since September 2025 over charges of unlawful military drilling, reportedly linked to a 2025 party parade.
Her prolonged detention had also raised concerns among supporters over her wellbeing, particularly amid reports of health challenges during her time in custody.
Moments after her release, Madada appeared overwhelmed with emotion as she left Luzira Prison, with photos and video showing her in tears.
Her emotional reaction quickly drew attention from NUP supporters and opposition circles, many of whom reflected on the lengthy period she had spent behind bars.
Madada’s release marks the end of nearly a year in custody as her supporters continue to call attention to the experiences of opposition activists facing criminal charges and detention.
