At the burial of veteran journalist Joseph Tamale Mirundi on Sunday, August 18, in Kalisizo, Kyotera District, prominent activist Frank Gashumba took a moment to offer heartfelt advice to the late journalist’s son, Tamale Mirundi Junior. With his father’s passing, Gashumba warned Junior that he would now need to tread more carefully, as the protection and guidance his father had provided throughout his life was no longer available.
“The one who’s been defending you is gone; I want you to know that. It’s time to slow down,” Gashumba advised, emphasizing that certain forces that might have been kept at bay due to Tamale Mirundi Senior’s influence could now pose a challenge for Junior.
Known for his outspoken nature, Tamale Mirundi Senior often used his influence and sharp wit to defend his family, including his son, from adversaries and criticism.
In a lighter moment during the emotional eulogy, Gashumba recalled a past incident where Junior had publicly attacked him but later apologized. “This one, one time, attacked me, then he came and apologized while kneeling,” Gashumba said, sharing the story with a smile that brought a moment of warmth to Junior and the gathered mourners.
Despite the somber occasion, Gashumba reassured Junior that he would be there to offer support and guidance moving forward. “I will continue to guide you in the challenges ahead,” Gashumba promised, urging the young Mirundi to embrace caution and wisdom as he navigates life without the formidable presence of his father.
