Renowned Ugandan singer, politician, actor, and activist, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, along with his wife Barbie Kyagulanyi, made a show-stopping appearance at the prestigious Oscars 2024 nominations launch event, solidifying their growing prominence on the global stage.
The power couple’s remarkable presence at the event comes on the heels of the recognition of Bobi Wine’s documentary film, “Bobi Wine: The People’s President,” in the Documentary Feature Film category of the 96th Oscars Academy Awards.
Produced by National Geographic Documentary Films and directed by Moses Bwayo and Christopher, the film has secured its spot among one hundred and sixty-seven entries, with only fifteen advancing to the final stage, as revealed by the Academy.
The Documentary Branch members played a pivotal role in shaping the shortlist and nominees, with the voting process scheduled to kick off in early January 2024. The six-day voting window will culminate in the announcement of nominations at the end of January.
A statement from the Academy outlined, “Nominations voting begins on Thursday, January 11, 2024, and concludes on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Nominations for the 96th Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.”
