POSITION OVERVIEW:
CURE Children’s Hospital of Uganda is seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to support the Finance Manager in ensuring the integrity of the hospital’s accounting information. The Senior Accountant will play a pivotal role in financial operations, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a healthcare environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in developing and monitoring the hospital’s annual budget.
- Collaborate with department heads to ensure accurate budget submissions.
- Support in preparing financial forecasts and tracking budget variances.
Financial Reporting:
- Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and stakeholders.
- Analyze financial statements and provide insights into financial trends.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness in financial reporting.
Accounts Payable and Receivable:
- Oversee accounts payable processes and manage timely payments to vendors.
- Monitor accounts receivable and optimize revenue collection processes.
- Implement strategies to optimize cash flow and working capital.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and prepare necessary financial reports for regulatory agencies.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax professionals during audits and tax filings.
Financial Analysis:
- Analyze financial data to identify cost-saving opportunities and revenue growth areas.
- Assist in financial modeling and decision-making processes.
Internal Controls:
- Develop and maintain internal financial controls and procedures to safeguard hospital assets.
- Implement best practices to prevent fraud and ensure financial integrity.
Staff Management:
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior accounting staff.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support financial initiatives.
Occupational Health & Safety:
- Ensure adherence to health and safety policies and procedures in the workplace.
- Report incidents promptly and participate in activities promoting well-being.
Education and Professional Development:
- Pursue ongoing professional development to enhance competencies.
- Identify training needs and facilitate education and development opportunities.
Spiritual Ministry:
- Participate in the hospital’s spiritual ministry programs and activities.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business Administration, Commerce, or Finance.
- Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA would be advantageous.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in healthcare.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of supervisory experience.
- Proficiency in accounting principles and financial software applications.
SKILLS:
- Technical accounting skills.
- Regulatory compliance knowledge.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in MS Office and accounting software.
