The funeral program for the late Joseph Tamale Mirundi, former Presidential Press Secretary and outspoken political commentator, has been officially released. The series of events will span several days, with vigils and masses held at each of his residences, before culminating in his burial at his ancestral home in Rakai District.
Here is the official schedule for the burial of Mr. Joseph Tamale Mirundi:
- Wednesday, 14th August 2024:
A vigil and mass will be held at the Zana Residence to honor his memory and provide an opportunity for close family, friends, and well-wishers to pay their respects. - Thursday, 15th August:
A Requiem Mass will take place at St. Gyaviira Catholic Church in Bunamwaya at 10:00 AM. Afterward, the body will be returned to the Zana Residence for an overnight vigil. - Friday, 16th August:
The body will be moved to the Kyengera Residence, where a mass will be held at 10:00 AM, followed by another overnight vigil. - Saturday, 17th August:
The body will depart for Kalagala Village in Kaliisizo, Rakai District, where a final vigil will take place in his ancestral home. - Sunday, 18th August:
The burial ceremony will commence at 10:00 AM at Kalagala Village in Kaliisizo, Rakai District, marking the conclusion of Tamale Mirundi’s final journey.
A popular commentator on Ugandan politics, Mirundi passed away on Tuesday night at Kisubi Hospital off Entebbe Road, according to family members.
Mirundi was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit of Kisubi hospital about a month ago.
Doctors had for the past few weeks been sucking water from his lungs.
However, Mirundi’s condition deteriorated on Tuesday night when doctors found blood in his lungs.
He was pronounced dead at around 11:45pm.
