Ugandan music icon Edrisa Musuuza, popularly known as Eddy Kenzo, recently made headlines with his appointment as a senior presidential advisor on creatives by President Yoweri Museveni. While this role is a significant recognition of Kenzo’s influence in Uganda’s creative industry, it also comes with substantial benefits that extend beyond just the prestige of the title.
Financial Rewards and Perks
Eddy Kenzo, like the 98 other presidential advisors, will be part of a select group that collectively receives Shs230 million monthly from the national Treasury. This translates to a substantial annual income of approximately Shs2.7 billion shared among the advisors. Depending on his specific role and status within the advisory team, Kenzo could earn between Shs2.2 million and Shs2.6 million each month. Some senior advisors, like the former German ambassador Claus E.P. Holderbaum, even receive up to Shs7 million monthly, suggesting that Kenzo’s earnings could be considerable.
Additional Privileges
In addition to his monthly salary, Kenzo will be entitled to several perks that come with the position. Full-time presidential advisors often receive an official vehicle, a driver, and in some instances, an escort. These benefits are standard for advisors in the Office of the President and are intended to facilitate their roles while ensuring their safety and comfort.
Influence and Access
Beyond the financial and material benefits, Kenzo’s new position grants him direct access to the corridors of power. As a senior presidential advisor, he will have the opportunity to influence national policy, particularly in the creative sector. His insights could shape future strategies and initiatives aimed at promoting Uganda’s cultural and artistic heritage.
A Network of Power
Kenzo’s appointment places him among a vast network of over 200 high-level advisors, including 77 Cabinet ministers and 22 Permanent Secretaries. This extensive pool of advisors provides the President with diverse perspectives on governance, and Kenzo’s inclusion signifies the growing importance of the creative industry in Uganda’s development agenda.
Congratulations Eddy Kenzo!
