Armed assailants reportedly raided Kyegegwa Government Prison in Western Uganda at around 1:00am on August 14, 2026, overpowering night-duty officers and escaping with two firearms. According to Uganda Prisons Service spokesperson Frank Baine, three officers were injured during the attempted break-in. They are Sergeant Warder Kalisa Titus, Sergeant Wardress Nakuya Suzan Margret and Warder Odongo Joshua, who were taken to hospital for treatment. The Ministry of Works and Transport has introduced tougher measures targeting owners and drivers of heavy trucks, particularly Sino Trucks, as part of efforts to reduce road accidents. During a meeting with Sino Truck drivers at the ministry offices in Kyambogo, officials announced that all drivers of the heavy vehicles will undergo fresh inspections and assessments in a programme expected to run for two months.
