Uganda’s Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara has called on Ugandans to take collective responsibility in the fight against corruption, saying the battle cannot be left to him, President Yoweri Museveni or CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba alone.
“The fight against corruption is not my war, nor is it the President Yoweri Museveni’s or CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s. It is a fight for all Ugandans who want a just and accountable society,” Balaam said.
He made the remarks during an appearance on UBC TV’s political talk show Front Bench, where he discussed grassroots service delivery, accountability and the role citizens can play in exposing corruption.
Balaam has recently intensified his “Expose the Corrupt” campaign, carrying out surprise inspections and demanding accountability in several districts.
The campaign has focused on alleged ghost workers, procurement irregularities and misuse of public funds, with some cases resulting in arrests and investigations.
The minister says defeating entrenched corruption networks will require ordinary Ugandans to actively expose wrongdoing instead of leaving the responsibility solely to government officials.
