Popular radio personality Etania, widely known as “Life of the Party,” has been sacked from NRG Radio. The news broke when an official letter dated July 1st was leaked, instructing Etania to return all company property and informing her of her salary entitlement up to July 3rd.
The letter, marked by a tone of finality, stated:
“As discussed, dignity and mutual respect are core, uncompromisable values at NRG. After our conversation, we believe that the best way forward for all parties involved is to terminate your services with NRG.”
This decision, as outlined in the letter, was the culmination of the company’s disciplinary process following the conclusion of Etania’s performance improvement plan.
Etania was instructed to return all company property, including her ID and laptop, to the Human Resources office by July 3rd. The letter emphasized:
“This is the final decision as part of the company’s disciplinary process. You are entitled to your salary until 3rd July. Please return all company property, including IDs and laptop, to the Human Resources office on the same date.”
Adding to the shock, the letter also revealed a stringent non-compete clause, which prevents Etania from taking a job with any company that competes with NRG Radio for one year. It read:
“Human Resource will provide you with a detailed letter outlining your full compensation details. Please bear in mind that you signed a non-compete and non-disclosure agreement, and as such, you are prohibited from working with competitors for a year or revealing business information to any other parties during this period. We wish you the best of luck.”
NRG Radio, based on Clement Hill in Kampala, with its mother company in Kenya, is one of the newest radio stations in the city. At the station, Etania was known for her vibrant and engaging evening show, which quickly garnered a loyal listener base.
