About the BRIGHT Project

The BRIGHT Project, funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aims to transform highland farming systems in Uganda. It targets 106,560 farmer households across Kigezi, Mt Elgon, and Rwenzori regions, focusing on improving household income, food security, and farming practices.

Position Overview

IFDC is seeking 33 Field Extension Workers (FEWs) to join the BRIGHT Project. The FEWs will be stationed in Rwenzori and Kigezi regions, responsible for organizing farmers into project villages, delivering training, and providing technical support to enhance agricultural practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and onboard farmers into organized project villages.
  • Conduct Participatory Integrated Planning (PIP) sessions.
  • Register farmers and facilitate training cascades.
  • Implement support programs including agronomy and nutrition training, farm visits, and management of demo plots.
  • Identify risks and develop action plans.
  • Collect and enter data for the BRIGHT M&E system.
  • Maintain effective relationships with staff, local partners, and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support to farmer innovators and project personnel.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in agriculture, agribusiness, forestry, or related field.
  • Experience and passion for extension work and farmer mobilization.
  • Resident of the respective region with knowledge of local languages and environment.
  • Proven experience in conducting farmer trainings.
  • Willingness to work extensively in rural areas.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: UGX 600,000 per month (subject to 6% withholding tax) based on target completion.
  • Allowances: UGX 150,000 transport allowance and UGX 70,000 airtime allowance per month.
  • Contract Duration: One year with potential for extension.
  • Report Submission: Monthly reports due by the 25th for review and approval.

Reporting Structure

FEWs will report to the IFDC Field Officer as specified in their contract.
