The High Court treason trial involving opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye, Hajji Obeid Lutale and Capt. Denis Oola has been adjourned to October 5, 2026, after State prosecutors failed to appear on time for Wednesday’s scheduled hearing.
Justice Emmanuel Baguma expressed frustration over the delay, explaining that the prosecutors were attending to another matter. He warned that the October 5 hearing would be the final adjournment, citing the seriousness of the case.
Besigye, Lutale and Oola face allegations of plotting to overthrow the Ugandan Government through meetings allegedly held in Uganda and abroad. The allegations remain before court and have not been proven.
The trial has also involved legal arguments over the admissibility of transcribed audio and video evidence. Police reportedly spent nearly Shs60 million on the transcription of the material.
Besigye has frequently been absent from court proceedings, with his lawyers citing health concerns. He has remained on remand since his arrest in 2024.
The case will now return to court on October 5, when proceedings are expected to resume.
