The Anti-Corruption Court has granted bail to Matthew Bagonza, Head of Secretariat at the Presidential Advisory Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID), on a cash deposit of Shs20 million.
Bagonza must also present sureties bonded at Shs30 million each and surrender his passport to court as part of the bail conditions.
He faces charges of money laundering and abuse of office over allegations that he transferred about Shs171.7 million from a PACEID-linked bank account to his personal account between 2023 and 2026.
Prosecutors also accuse him of irregularly incorporating a private company with objectives similar to those of PACEID while serving under the Office of the President.
Bagonza’s release on bail does not amount to an acquittal, and the charges remain subject to determination by court.
