Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has confirmed the allocation of Shs1 billion in government funds to events promoter Norbert Twizire, popularly known as Nobat Events, through the Kampala and Beyond United Music Promoters SACCO.
The funding has attracted scrutiny following Twizire’s remand to Luzira Prison alongside fellow promoter Twaha Mujabi over allegations involving the management of about Shs1 billion in government funds and Shs31.9 million in SACCO members’ savings. The two appeared before Makindye Magistrates Court on October 5, 2026, and are expected back in court on October 26.
The case is linked to a wider Shs10 billion government support programme for music promoters, which has faced questions over how the money was distributed and managed. Earlier reports indicated that the government had begun reviewing the utilisation of funds released under the programme.
The controversy has reignited debate about accountability and the use of public money, particularly as Ugandans continue to face economic pressures.
Twizire and Mujabi have not been convicted, and the allegations against them remain before court.
