Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has rewarded the Uganda Cranes with Shs30 million following their 1-0 victory over Libya in an AFCON 2027 qualifier at Hoima City Stadium.
The cash reward was delivered by Daudi Kabanda, Head of the Chairman’s Office of the Patriotic League of Uganda and Kasambya County MP, and handed to Cranes captain Denis Onyango on behalf of Gen. Muhoozi. The presentation was witnessed by State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang and FUFA President Moses Magogo.
The reward followed a hard-fought encounter on Tuesday, September 29, in which debutant Arnold Vula scored Uganda’s only goal in first-half stoppage time to secure the three points. The result moved the Cranes to four points from their opening two Group H matches.
The match was also Uganda’s first AFCON qualifier at the newly constructed Hoima City Stadium, with captain Onyango having earlier described the venue as impressive and expressed the team’s desire to make it a strong home ground.
The cash reward comes amid increased government support for the Uganda Cranes ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which Uganda will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania. FUFA has previously announced improved player welfare, bonuses, travel arrangements and other support as preparations for the tournament continue.
For the Cranes, the victory provides another positive result as head coach Paul Put continues integrating new players into the squad ahead of future international assignments.
