Uganda has reached another major milestone in preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after the construction of the Akii Bua Olympic Stadium, a 20,000-Seat arena progressed to 72% completion.
The update was confirmed by the AFCON 2027 Local Organising Committee, which highlighted the steady progress of the project as Uganda continues efforts to deliver modern sports infrastructure ahead of the continental football tournament.
he 20,000-seat Akii Bua Olympic Stadium is among Uganda’s flagship infrastructure projects under the #Pamoja2027 partnership, through which Uganda will co-host AFCON 2027 alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
Once completed, the stadium is expected to provide a world-class football facility that meets CAF standards and support Uganda’s long-term sports development goals.
The facility is also expected to improve Uganda’s ability to host major international sporting events while creating opportunities for athletes, fans, and the wider sports industry.
With construction moving forward, Uganda remains on course to welcome Africa’s biggest football tournament in 2027.
