Background: UNCDA (Uganda Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance) is a leading organization in Uganda’s response to non-communicable diseases (NCDs). It operates as an umbrella organization for various NCD-specific groups, aiming to combat the NCD epidemic in the country. UNCDA is partnering with the International Cancer Institute (ICI) of Kenya to implement the Blue Print Project in Western Uganda. This initiative focuses on strengthening community awareness and screening for diabetes and hypertension while integrating breast, cervical, and prostate cancers across ten districts.

Job Purpose: The Project Coordinator will support the UNCDA/ICI partnership in implementing the Blue Print Project in Western Uganda. Additionally, the role involves coordinating UNCDA branch activities in the region in line with UNCDA’s vision and mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Implementation and Oversight:
    • Coordinate the implementation of the UNCDA/ICI Blue Print project and oversee UNCDA program activities in Western Uganda.
    • Facilitate NCDs screening and awareness-raising initiatives at health facilities and within communities.
    • Support branch teams in conducting activities within their specific areas.
    • Provide NCDs updates to guide project implementation and ensure effective communication between district teams and the UNCDA Secretariat.
    • Lead the Blue Print project and other UNCDA-supported projects.
  2. Staff Management:
    • Manage branch teams in Sheema and surrounding UNCDA branches in Western Uganda.
    • Support capacity-building efforts and identify training needs within the branches and project teams.
  3. Representation of UNCDA:
    • Attend meetings, webinars, and NCD-related events on behalf of UNCDA, sharing insights with the secretariat.
    • Represent UNCDA in interactions with health partners at national and district levels, focusing on the NCDs agenda.
  4. Clinical Expertise:
    • Assist in establishing and prioritizing NCDs clinical needs within operational areas.
    • Provide guidance to branch teams, UNCDA staff, and volunteers on clinical matters when required.
    • Collaborate closely with ICI partners in medical advisory services and equipment procurement.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma in a clinical-related field (Nursing/Midwifery or Clinical Officer) and a bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Administration, Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in project management.
  • Basic knowledge and skills in Monitoring and Evaluation are advantageous.
  • Experience in NCDs, community health services, and programs is desirable.
  • Fluency in Runyakitara (especially Runyankole-Rukiga) or any Bantu Language and English.

  • Proven track record in stakeholder engagement and relationship building.
  • Proficiency in project management and process improvement.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in budget preparation and management.
  • Passion for social justice and community development.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Ability to initiate and manage online communications platforms.

Salary: Negotiable based on qualifications, experience, and salary history.
