Two South Korean nationals and a Ugandan lawyer have been remanded to prison after being arraigned before Kajjansi Magistrates Court on charges of kidnapping and theft of gold valued at USD 129,000 from a Ugandan.
The suspects have been identified as Kim Seung Kyum, of South Korea-based White Holdings Ltd, Kim Chung Khuk, both South Korean nationals, and Ugandan lawyer Ashabahebwa Eugene.
According to investigators by the State House Investors Protection Unit, the suspects and others still at large allegedly kidnapped Kimuli Ismail from Uganda to South Korea in July 2026 and stole 1kg of gold valued at USD 129,000, belonging to businessman Mpuuga Arafat.
The alleged incident reportedly occurred at the offices of Frontline Air & Sea Ltd in Lubowa, Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District.
Mpuuga reported the matter to the Police Mineral Protection Unit (PMPU) on July 19, 2026, prompting a joint operation involving the Specialised Investigations and Prosecutions Unit (SHIPU), police and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The three suspects were subsequently arrested and have been remanded in prison until August 31, 2026, as investigations continue.
