The High Court in Masaka has dismissed a parliamentary election petition filed by National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Rose Nalubowa against State Minister Justine Nameere, upholding Nameere’s victory as Masaka City Woman MP.
In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Justice Bernard Namanya acknowledged irregularities during the February vote recount, including compromised electoral materials, but ruled that Nalubowa had failed to prove that they substantially affected the final results.
The judge noted that even if the 1,353 disputed votes were added to Nalubowa’s tally, Nameere would still win by 973 votes.
Nalubowa had initially appeared to win the January 15 elections with 25,443 votes against Nameere’s 20,324. However, a subsequent recount reversed the results, giving Nameere 25,502 votes against Nalubowa’s 23,176.
Following the ruling, Nameere retains the seat, while Nalubowa was ordered to pay the costs of the petition.
