The Catholic Church is mourning the loss of Rev. Fr. Viatory Muvunyi, a priest of the Archdiocese of Kampala, whose death was announced by Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere.
In an official communication released by the Archdiocese, Archbishop Ssemogerere expressed deep sorrow following the passing of Fr. Muvunyi, describing it as a painful loss to the Church, the priesthood, and the Christian community.
Fr. Muvunyi hailed from Kiziba Parish and dedicated his life to serving God through pastoral ministry, education, and the formation of future priests.
At the time of his death, he was serving as a teacher at Uganda Martyrs National Seminary Alokolum in Gulu, where he played a key role in mentoring and shaping seminarians preparing for priesthood.
The Archdiocese praised Fr. Muvunyi for his unwavering dedication to ministry, noting that his commitment to education and spiritual formation impacted countless lives both within the Church and beyond.
His death has left many faithful, fellow clergy, former students, and members of the Catholic community in shock as tributes continue to pour in from those who knew and worked with him.
By the time of publication, the cause of death had not yet been officially communicated.
The Archdiocese of Kampala said details regarding funeral and burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
Catholics across the country have been urged to pray for the repose of Fr. Muvunyi’s soul and to support his family, fellow priests, and the wider Church community during this difficult period of mourning.
