Uganda’s First Lady, Janet Kataaha Museveni, has publicly confirmed that she is recovering well after battling a serious health condition that kept her away from public engagements for several months.
In an emotional message shared as she celebrated her 78th birthday, Mrs. Museveni thanked Ugandans for the prayers, support, and birthday wishes that helped her through what she described as one of the most challenging periods of her life.
First Lady Reveals Illness Began In March
The First Lady disclosed that her health struggles started in March 2026, leading to her prolonged absence from public functions and national events.
She attributed her recovery to God’s grace and the prayers of countless Ugandans, including those led by her husband, President Yoweri Museveni.
“It’s me, Janet Museveni. It is a confirmation that the God I talk about is a living God. He is not a myth; He lives,” she said.
Janet Thanks Museveni And Ugandans For Prayers
Mrs. Museveni expressed special appreciation to President Museveni and the entire nation for standing with her throughout the difficult period.
“I must therefore thank Uganda, beginning with Mzee, who has prayed with the whole nation. I praise God for leading us to know Him. Thank you all for coming out publicly to pray for me,” she said.
She also thanked Ugandans for the overwhelming love and encouragement they showed her during her recovery journey.
“Thank you for all those continuous prayers and also for the kind birthday wishes. Thank you for letting me know just how much I am loved.”
Months Of Absence Sparked Health Speculation
The First Lady had largely disappeared from public view since late March, missing several major national events, including the presidential inauguration in May 2026.
Her absence fueled widespread speculation on social media, with numerous rumors circulating about her condition.
During that period, several unverified reports and manipulated online posts claimed she was critically ill or undergoing intensive medical treatment. However, government officials and fact-checkers repeatedly dismissed many of those claims as false and misleading.
Government Previously Confirmed She Was Unwell
In early April, senior government official Brig. Gen. Proscovia Nalweyiso publicly confirmed that the First Lady had indeed been unwell but reassured the country that her condition was improving.
Nalweyiso also urged Ugandans to continue praying for her recovery.
With her latest message, Janet Museveni has now put months of speculation to rest, reassuring the nation that she is recovering steadily and remains grateful for the support she received throughout her health battle.
