Kalangala District — The Electoral Commission has declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Idah Nabayiga the duly elected Kalangala District Woman Member of Parliament, following a closely watched by-election.
Nabayiga secured a commanding 12,642 votes, comfortably defeating her closest challenger, Irene Nampala of the National Unity Platform (NUP), who polled 7,474 votes in a competitive race that attracted intense political activity across the island district.
The result was officially announced by Kalangala District Returning Officer Ronald Agaba, who confirmed the completion of polling, counting, and tallying processes in line with Uganda’s electoral procedures.

The victory cements Nabayiga’s entry into Parliament as Kalangala’s new Woman MP after a heated campaign period marked by strong mobilization from major political parties.
In a statement, the Electoral Commission congratulated the winner and thanked voters, candidates, political parties, election officials, security agencies, observers, and the media for their participation in the electoral process.
The by-election was held following the death of former NUP Woman MP Helen Nakimuli in April 2026, which left the seat vacant.

The outcome has since sparked mixed reactions online, with NRM supporters celebrating the win while some opposition voices raised concerns over the electoral process.
