Armed soldiers have been deployed outside the headquarters of Daily Monitor in Namuwongo, Kampala, as the newspaper remains under a reported military siege.

The deployment follows reported directives attributed to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces and son of President Yoweri Museveni, ordering the shutdown of Nation Media Group (Uganda operations). The action is said to target multiple media outlets under the group.

A parallel operation was reported at the broadcast centre hosting NTV Uganda and Spark TV at Serena Hotel, where security forces reportedly moved in around midnight on Sunday and took the stations off air, halting transmissions.

Other outlets reportedly impacted include:
Dembe FM, KFM, The East African and all are part of the Nation Media Group network in Uganda.

The developments come after earlier remarks attributed to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, in which he reportedly warned that he could “switch off” certain stations, stating such action would require presidential authorization.

He has also previously suggested in public comments that some outlets would not resume operations without his approval.

Access to the affected media premises remains heavily restricted, with armed personnel maintaining positions outside key offices. As of now, there has been no official confirmation or detailed statement from the Uganda Communications Commission regarding the shutdowns.

The situation remains tense as the media blackout continues across multiple outlets.
