The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has finally spoken out following the sudden shutdown of Nation Media Group Uganda outlets, saying it is still gathering verified information about the incident.
In a statement shared on X, UCC Executive Director Nyombi Thembo confirmed that the regulator had taken note of the outage affecting NTV Uganda, Spark TV, Dembe FM, and KFM, all of which went off air on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
“We have immediately initiated consultations with relevant government stakeholders to establish the verified facts surrounding the incident,” Thembo said.

He further urged the public to remain calm and refrain from circulating unverified information as authorities continue to assess the situation.
The shutdown came shortly after Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, announced on X that NTV Uganda and the Daily Monitor had been shut down. Soon afterward, security personnel were reportedly deployed to Nation Media Group Uganda’s headquarters in Namuwongo, raising fresh concerns about media freedom and the circumstances surrounding the closure.
Nation Media Group Uganda has since confirmed that its premises were closed by the military. The company said it will continue engaging and updating its audiences through its digital platforms while the situation unfolds.

The unprecedented developments have sparked widespread public debate, with journalists, civil society groups, and members of the public demanding an official explanation from the government as uncertainty continues to surround the shutdown.
