Uganda’s two-time Olympic champion and world record holder Joshua Cheptegei delivered another outstanding performance after winning the 2026 Absa RUN YOUR CITY Durban 10K in South Africa.
Cheptegei stormed to victory in a course-record time of 27 minutes and 20 seconds, finishing ahead of a strong field of elite runners from Kenya and across East Africa.
The victory marks another milestone in the Ugandan star’s transition from track racing to road running, demonstrating that he remains among the world’s best distance athletes.
Uganda also had more reason to celebrate as Emmanuel Kibet produced an impressive performance to finish third, securing a podium place and capping off a memorable day for the country’s athletics team.
Speaking after the race, Cheptegei thanked his supporters and described the victory as another important step in his journey towards longer road races.
The Olympic champion said resilience, proper nutrition, and effective race preparation have played a crucial role in helping him overcome setbacks and remain competitive at the highest level.
Cheptegei also revealed that his focus is now shifting towards a half marathon in the coming months, before eventually making the move to the full marathon as part of his long-term career plans.
With yet another record-breaking performance added to his remarkable résumé, Cheptegei continues to strengthen his reputation as one of the greatest distance runners Uganda has ever produced.
