Former Makindye East MP and anti-corruption activist Hon. John Ssimbwa has called on President Yoweri Museveni to extend forgiveness to jailed former Karamoja State Minister Agnes Nandutu.

Speaking during an appearance on BBS Terefayina’s Zimba Ensi Yo political talk show, Ssimbwa argued that Nandutu should be considered for mercy following reports that former Speaker Anita Annet Among had been forgiven.

Ssimbwa questioned whether the same compassion could be extended to Nandutu, claiming she may have been misled into taking iron sheets meant for the people of Karamoja.

“If President Museveni forgave Anita Among, then he should also forgive Agnes Nandutu because she may have been misled into taking the iron sheets meant for the people of Karamoja,” Ssimbwa said.

Nandutu, a former State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, was sentenced to four years in prison in April 2026 over her involvement in the high-profile Karamoja iron sheets scandal.

She was convicted of dealing with suspect property after the court found that she unlawfully received and retained 2,000 pre-painted iron sheets marked “Office of the Prime Minister.”

The iron sheets were part of supplies intended to support vulnerable communities under the Karamoja Community Empowerment Programme.

Ssimbwa’s comments have now added fresh political drama to the debate surrounding Nandutu’s conviction and the reported developments involving Anita Among.
