Position Overview:

Reporting directly to the Donor Engagement Lead, the Communications Officer will play a pivotal role in advancing Alight’s advocacy and strategic communications agenda in Uganda. This role involves crafting compelling narratives, producing high-quality communication materials, and driving engagement across various platforms to amplify our impact and raise awareness about our work.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Review and implement the Alight Communications Policy and dissemination plan, ensuring alignment with global communications standards.
  • Collaborate with Alight staff to review, edit, and produce communications materials, ensuring accuracy and adherence to branding guidelines.
  • Work closely with the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) team to gather data for visualization and develop human interest stories.
  • Manage social media channels, including content creation and maintenance, to enhance Alight’s online presence.
  • Provide technical support and capacity building to staff on communication tools, processes, and best practices.
  • Design and deliver training sessions on data presentation, photography, and communication techniques.
  • Capture success stories in the field and produce impactful communication documents showcasing Alight’s achievements.
  • Lead the graphic design of communication products, ensuring high-quality outputs.
  • Produce fact sheets, briefs, and sector summaries highlighting Alight’s impact and insights.
  • Utilize data visualization techniques to enhance the presentation of information.
  • Provide support in graphic design, video editing, and event content creation.
  • Monitor the quality and presentation of data in power points and briefs developed by field teams.
  • Offer additional communications support as required by the program.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mass communication or a related field with a focus on data utilization.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in Uganda.
  • Familiarity with Government of Uganda systems, Ministry of Health, USAID/PEPFAR, and other partners preferred.
  • Experience in digital communication, website, and social media management.
  • Strong writing, editing, and design skills, with the ability to articulate concepts effectively.
  • Previous experience in sustainable development, particularly within NGOs or research organizations.
  • Proficiency in English with excellent organizational and report writing abilities.
  • Experience working in both public and private sectors is advantageous.
  • Ability to create literature reviews, summarize complex information, and produce advocacy materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and engage with stakeholders effectively.
