Uganda Police has taken swift action against a social media influencer known as “Pressure 24/7,” who was responsible for disseminating disrespectful content targeting the Kabaka of Buganda, His Highness Ronald Muwenda Mutebi.
The influencer, prominent on TikTok, came under scrutiny after multiple videos containing derogatory remarks about the revered Buganda King surfaced online, sparking outrage among members of the Buganda community and beyond.
The disrespectful nature of the content prompted an immediate investigation by authorities, resulting in the identification and subsequent arrest of the individual behind the offensive videos.
Charles Peter Mayiga, the Prime Minister of Buganda, has consistently emphasized the importance of responsible social media usage and the significance of upholding cultural respect, particularly towards traditional leaders. Mayiga denounced the derogatory content, stating that such actions undermine the mutual respect and harmony integral to the cultural fabric of the Buganda kingdom.
The arrested influencer is currently in police custody and is expected to face charges related to the dissemination of offensive content and disrespect towards a cultural figure.
