Veteran Ugandan journalist Andrew Mwenda has ignited fresh political debate after declaring that Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and PLU Chairman Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba is currently the most admired public figure in Uganda.
Speaking on the country’s political climate, Mwenda argued that many Ugandans view Muhoozi as a fearless leader who has taken on the long-standing problem of corruption.
“You can do a poll right now. Muhoozi is the most popular human being in Uganda because…”
He continued:
“I think right now Muhoozi is the most admired public figure in Uganda because people feel he has slain the beast of corruption. If you’re blind to that fact, one of these days the anti-democratic institutions in this country will collapse on our heads without us recognizing it.” — Andrew Mwenda
Muhoozi has recently made headlines for leading high-profile anti-corruption operations targeting senior government officials. Among the most talked-about actions was the seizure of luxury vehicles, including a Rolls-Royce linked to former Speaker Anita Among, reinforcing his image among supporters as a determined anti-corruption crusader.
Mwenda’s remarks have sparked intense discussion on social media and in political circles. While many supporters agree that Muhoozi’s recent actions have boosted his public image, critics question whether his popularity is as widespread as Mwenda suggests.
The comments come at a time when public frustration over corruption remains high and political conversations about Uganda’s future leadership continue to intensify.
