Buganda Princess, Sarah Katrina Mirembe Ssangalyambogo, set tongues wagging during the opening of the annual Nabaggereka’s Kisaakaate as she chose to deliver her speech in English instead of the traditional Luganda, sparking a fiery debate about cultural preservation and inclusivity.
Kisakate kya Nabagereka, a revered yearly girl mentorship program, focuses on imparting cultural and moral values to young girls within the kingdom. However, this year’s edition took an unexpected turn when Princess Katrina, daughter of the Nabagereka, opted for English during her keynote speech, deviating from the customary use of Luganda in such royal gatherings.
The move has ignited criticism across various online platforms, with many questioning the princess’s decision to speak in a language other than the native tongue of the kingdom.
