National Unity Platform (NUP) politician Muwanga Kivumbi has been granted bail after appearing before court, with the legislator required to pay Shs10 million cash bail.
Kivumbi, together with 17 other accused persons, was granted bail by Justice Susan Okalany, according to a statement shared by the National Unity Platform (NUP).
While Kivumbi was granted Shs10 million cash bail, the other accused persons were each ordered to pay Shs1 million cash bail.
The court also exempted six individuals who did not present valid identification documents from the immediate process. However, Justice Okalany guided that those who had been exempted were also granted bail and would be required to complete the necessary bail conditions.
The accused persons are expected to return on July 13, 2026, to fulfil the remaining bail requirements, including presenting credible sureties and submitting other required valid documents.
The granting of bail comes amid continued political debate surrounding the arrest and prosecution of opposition figures and supporters, with NUP maintaining that many of its members have faced politically motivated charges.

Court proceedings are expected to continue as the accused persons comply with the conditions set by the court.
