Police in the Katonga Region have launched intensified investigations into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a machine operator during an inspection at a coffee processing factory in Gomba District.
The deceased has been identified as Katerega Musa, an employee of Abbarci Industries Ltd, who was shot dead on July 1, 2026, at around 4:00 p.m. in Kanoni Cell, Kanoni Town Council.
According to preliminary police findings, officials from the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA), accompanied by armed security personnel and police officers, had visited the factory to carry out a routine inspection.
The inspection team was reportedly led by a UCDA official identified as Mathias, who was known to the factory’s Acting Manager and Accountant, Nalubega Zalika.
Police say video footage obtained during the investigation shows that a scuffle broke out among some of the people present moments before the fatal shooting.
Investigators are now working to establish what triggered the altercation and how it escalated into the incident that left Katerega dead.
Authorities have not yet disclosed who fired the fatal shot, with investigations still ongoing.
As part of the investigations, three police officers attached to Butambala Police Station have been arrested to assist with inquiries into the shooting.
The officers have been identified as PC Mujuni Nicholas, PC Welikhe Dan Alex, and Corporal Foste Bosco.
Police confirmed that the three remain in custody and are expected to be produced before court as investigations continue.
