Nansana Municipality MP and NUP Shadow Minister for Sports, Hon. Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa, has apologised to the party’s grassroots supporters “Foot Soldiers” for any wrongs committed by its leaders, while reminding them that the struggle for their political goals is far from over.
Speaking during an exclusive interview on “Direct Shot” with journalist Kisitu John Basco, Mukasa called for stronger cooperation between NUP leaders and the party’s “foot soldiers.”
“We apologise to our foot soldiers wherever we may have wronged them, but remember our anthem, Engule — we are not there yet.”
Mukasa’s remarks come amid growing concerns among some NUP grassroots supporters over the relationship between party leaders and the ordinary members who support the party at community level.
The call for unity follows a recent viral video in which a visibly frustrated NUP foot soldier accused several party leaders of abandoning the family and fellow supporters of fallen activist Paul Musoke.
The supporter alleged that some politicians use grassroots members for personal and political gains but disappear when those same supporters need their help.
Mukasa, a former NBS Television Luganda news anchor and talk-show host, transitioned into politics and joined NUP. He won the Nansana Municipality parliamentary seat in the January 2026 elections and was later appointed the party’s Shadow Minister for Sports.
His latest message appears aimed at calming growing frustrations within the opposition party while encouraging leaders and grassroots supporters to work together as NUP navigates internal competition for party tickets, positions and influence.
