Ugandan singer Iryn Namubiru has opened up about a painful family experience, revealing that her mother allegedly stopped speaking to her during her first pregnancy in the United Kingdom in 2002.
In a personal account shared on social media, Namubiru said she informed her mother about the pregnancy when she was about two months along. However, communication reportedly stopped a month later and remained strained throughout the pregnancy and for four and a half months after she welcomed her son.
The singer linked the fallout partly to disagreements over money. She explained that she had helped process travel visas for her mother and half-brother, Nicholas, and contributed about half of their air ticket costs. However, her mother reportedly questioned her marriage to a man she believed could not provide enough financial support.

Namubiru also recalled learning that her mother had arrived in the UK without informing her directly. When her mother eventually called months after the birth, the conversation reportedly focused on a workplace fight rather than asking about Namubiru or her newborn.
The revelation has renewed attention to her memoir, My Mother Knows! My Journey to Healing, which explores her personal experiences and journey towards emotional healing. The book has also been nominated in the Best Author and Best-Selling Book categories at the 2026 Zikomo Africa & Caribbean Awards.
