Bukooli County North MP Hon. Jamali Ayagalachi has called for the immediate suspension of toll operations on the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, demanding investigations and arrests over alleged financial irregularities.
Ayagalachi made the call in Parliament on Tuesday while responding to a report by the Committee on Physical Infrastructure, which raised concerns over the management and accountability of toll revenue.
The NUP legislator questioned why no immediate action had been taken against individuals implicated in the alleged irregularities, pointing to Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara’s recent swift action in cases involving alleged corruption.
The committee reportedly flagged unreconciled vehicle records, discrepancies between collections and banked funds, as well as continued reliance on manual processes.
Toll revenue is reportedly around Shs4 billion per month, with about 27,000 vehicles using the expressway daily, but the collections remain below the targets needed to support repayment of the $350 million loan used to finance the project.
Ayagalachi backed Physical Infrastructure Committee Chairperson Mwine Mpaka Rwamirama and called for the toll system to be halted until the alleged financial irregularities are fully investigated.
He insisted that anyone found culpable should face arrest and accountability.
