Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces and First Son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has reportedly offered to provide breakfast, lunch and dinner for 1,000 people during the nine-day mourning period for the late Tooro Kingdom Omukama, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
The announcement was made by Dr. Richard Rwabuhinga, the head of the King’s send-off organising committee, during a live press event at Karuzika Palace in Fort Portal.
According to Rwabuhinga, Gen. Muhoozi’s contribution is intended to support the thousands of mourners and visitors expected at the palace as Tooro Kingdom continues with traditional mourning rites and preparations for the late King’s final send-off.
The kingdom remains in mourning following the death of King Oyo on August 27, 2026, at the age of 34.
Mourning rituals are already underway at Karuzika Palace, where a vigil is being held. Lion sculptures, which symbolise the King and the throne, have also been covered in barkcloth as a sign of mourning.
Gen. Muhoozi’s contribution is expected to provide support to mourners gathering at the palace throughout the nine-day mourning period.
